Toshiba wants to put 14.6 MP cameras in your cellphone

ToshibaDon’t bother trying to make sense of the picture, we didn’t.  What we did do is read up on the fact that Toshiba is developing a 14.6 megapixel sensor with cellphones in mind.  This is a little mind boggling, given that most current smartphones fall somewhere between 2-5 megapixels.  A jump that large, even if it is at least a year off, could really shake some things up.

Nokia pushes N900 back into November

N900

We know, we can’t wait to get our hands on the new Nokia N900 either, but unfortunately, we’re going to have to.  The mega-hyped device has been pushed back into November.  Yeah, it sucks.  On a brighter note, however, a November release date may line up beautifully with T-Mobile’s new pricing structure.  Ok, we’ll wait.

Company sells “Dummy” iPhones; makes dreams possible

Dummy iPhone

Have you ever considered this scenario?  You, like most of the United State’s population, have one friend who is absolutely crazy over their iPhone.  One day, when they are being particularly annoying, you ask to borrow the device to place a quick call.  Your friend, after a careful inspection of your hands while muttering, “not… too greasy”, hands the phone over.  You dial a ridiculous phone number (ex. 000-0000 or 800-8135) just to add to the moment.  Then with a Howard Dean quality “EEEEEAAAARRRGH!” you toss the phone into a large body of water, passing bus, brush fire, bank drive-thru suction tube (you know, get creative).  Your friend crumbles under the weight of their crushing sorrow, and you dance triumphantly having just vanquished the touch screen dragon.  We thought you may have.  Well since most of us still have some sense of right and wrong, this scenario plays out very rarely.  That is, it used to play out very rarely.  The website, iPhone Dummy, is currently selling extremely realistic looking iPhone replicas for just $20.  Thats right, the aforementioned scenario is attainable.  All you need is a small amount of funds, a major credit card, and some slight-of-hand practice.  “Immortality, it’s yours, take it.”

Google Voice now includes voicemail management

Google Voice

For the most part, when Google redesigns an aspect of your life, good things happen.  Google Voice does not break from this trend.  One of the only downsides to using Google Voice to this point is that you were required you use a Google number, different than your existing number.  Who wants to remember two numbers?  That doesn’t seem very Google.  Well, like always, the Big G is here to make things right.  Google recently posted on their blog that Google Voice will now have the ability to use your existing phone number.  While this will limit a few features it will also improve voicemail management.  Read on to find out more. Sprint’s new device is not such a texting ‘Hero’

HTC HeroTurns out there may be some people that disagree with the name that HTC selected for its most recently released device, the Hero.  Owners of the fresh device, which is carried on Sprint, have reported that they have been having some issues receiving text messages.  Users claim they can send texts perfectly fine, but experience periods, of varying lengths, within which no texts will be received.  Some users even claim to not be able to receive any texts.  Neither HTC or Sprint has said anything officially about the issue yet, but it appears to be affecting a fairly large set of customers in both the US and UK.  We will let you know how it develops.

iPhone app helps Obama communicate his plan to the youth

ObamaWe have had our grubby little mitts all over the “I Am T-Pain” app since it launched for the iPhone in early fall.  The app gives users the ability to record tracks using the same auto-tune software that T-Pain has made famous.  “I Am T-Pain” features a handful of hits from the artist as well as a few original beats to freestyle over.  For the most part we simply sing short disconnected phrases that involve the words “club, drank, girl, yeah, and moon”.  Not surprisingly, these songs sound as good or better than T-Pain songs currently being played on the radio.  T-Pain even recently took the challenge of auto-tuning President Obama’s voice to help him communicate on the same level as our youth.  Read on to see the video.

Verizon’s upcoming BlackBerry Curve 2 gets reviewed

Picture 30

Verizon has a new BlackBerry coming out, sorry if we don’t sound excited.  The BlackBerry Curve 2 (8530)  is not set to launch for some time now, but that didn’t stop those over at CrackBerry from getting their hands on one and posting their thoughts.  Initial reports look pretty good.  Exactly the same form as the Curve (with a new back cover), Wi-Fi, good interface, nice trackpad, tons of buttons… We’re sorry, this has to stop.  We just can’t seem to get excited for this phone.  Why?  Because it looks and apparently feels like every other BlackBerry that has been produced in the last two years (minus the Storm).  It just seems like BlackBerry is on line-extension steroids, the originality just doesn’t seem to be there.  Is it too much to ask for a brand to stay true to itself without using a cookie cutter?  Follow the link for an initial review.

Pre-order the worlds first BlackBerry watch; or dont

BlackBerry WatchFinally, all those die-hard BlackBerry users can rid their lives of inconvenient wrist watches.  Wait… BlackBerry users don’t have wrist watches, because they have a BLACKBERRY!  We can’t remember the last time we saw a wrist watch being worn for the purpose of telling time.  The arm-tethered technology, which now a days is only kept relevant by purists and fashionistas, is slowly dying.  Why?  Because starting in the 7th grade (oftentimes sooner) our youth are learning to tell time by pulling their smartphones from their pockets.  This is where the problems start for the inPulse Smartwatch, but not where they end.  The Smartwatch is neither pure nor fashionable, there goes your market and we haven’t even mentioned what the device does yet.  Read on to find out.  Read more

Palm’s Pixi to hit Sprint stores November 15

Palm PixiIt’s official, the Palm Pixi, which Palm announced in early September, will be hitting Sprint stores, Best Buy, RadioShack, and some Wal-Marts on November 15.  The device will come with a price tag of $100 (after rebates) on a new contract.  We are underwhelmed by this news, as over the last few weeks we have seen select retailers offer promotions in which the Pre, the Pixi’s older, wiser brother, was available at or below $100.  Both phones being on the same network with such a small difference in price doesn’t do Palm any favors.  The word cannibalization comes to mind, but not in the cool way.

Halloween costumes hit new nerdy lows

guy phone

Really?  Could those really be iPhone costumes?  Yes, really.  These two suits, which are being called “guyphones”, consist of one iPhone 3GS, one 42-inch LCD TV, one douchebag, one car battery and a fair amount of wiring.  The iPhone is mounted to the left shoulder and the screen image is then relayed to the LCD TV, which we assume is strapped securely between the car battery and the vital organs, what could go wrong?  Read on to find out.
